EarthVPN Review – A Cyprus based Anonymity Guarantor

EarthVPN is based in Cyprus (out of 14-Eyes Surveillance) and was founded in 2012, which makes it one of the oldest dealers in the VPN market. However, since the very start, it has met the prevailing VPN standards. This VPN offers a whole lot of services at a reasonable price, but it is yet to be seen how sound they are in terms of performance.

Let’s see how much this Cyprus-based VPN costs.

Is the service Costly?

While conducting this EarthVPN review, we came across only two pricing plans, which felt odd. Such a lack of diversity in package plans is rare in the VPN industry where normally a VPN offers 3 to 4 different packages to lure the users need.

The packages offered by EarthVPN include;

  1. Monthly Package: $3.99.
  2. Yearly Package: $39.99.

Their monthly package is way too cheap and is full of features. I smell something fishy here, how can a VPN be this cheap? There must be something under the cover.

For now let’s look at how you can pay for such subscription? What are the payment options it supports? And later find if this Cyprus based VPN really hiding something?

Which Payments Methods are Supported by EarthVPN?

The diversity which was lacking in the pricing plans is addressed here in the payment method section. This VPN accepts payments from 12 different means and transaction types. It also accepts anonymous payments; have a look at the options below;

Security Features of EarthVPN

EarthVPN’s Encryption and Optional 256bit Protection

EarthVPN supports all popular protocols, but these protocols come up with different encryptions to help you take online security to new heights. Following are the supported protocols with their optional encryptions.

  • PPTP with MMPE 128bit encryption
  • L2TP/IPSec with 256bit encryption
  • SSTP with 2048bit encryption
  • OpenVPN with AES 128 and 256bit encryption

In order to avail the AES-256 bit encryption, you need to pay $1.99, which is a huge turn-off additionally. Alongside, you will need to pay additional $1.99 for adding mobile devices; $1.99 for static IP (if you want the same IP address every time); $1.99 to enable Proxy/SSH tunnel for utmost security; $1.99 for enabling 1 dynamic port forwarding. In general, you will pay this much for a complete package of a month:

Complete Package cost – [3.99 + 1.99 + 1.99 + 1.99 +1.99 + 1.99] = 13.94

So the cat is finally out of the bag and it looks like the VPN company seeks to make the most out of its users in terms of “optional add-ons”.

But it feels bad how EarthVPN has called the following optional add-ons while they are the must-haves for the best VPN provider.

  • AES-256 encryption
  • Mobile App
  • Static IP
  • Proxy/SSH Tunnel
  • Dynamic port forwarding

An Insight to Earth VPN Servers

EarthVPN servers are scattered on 6 different continents in 54 countries at 1900 physical locations with an overall 432 VPN gateways.

Their servers are not in big numbers but are vastly spread as depicted in the image.

Wherever you are in the world, you will face the greatest speeds and best connectivity thanks to their widespread servers in the world.

One thing that concerns me here is the low server density in most countries like Australia, South Africa, Iceland, and Hong Kong. All these countries have one server each which might lead to high server traffic and higher ping.

Earth VPN Logging Policy

EarthVPN has a clear log policy; it states that they do not keep logs however they collect the following information;

  • User’s full name
  • Email address
  • Username
  • Passwords
  • Real IP Address

The Cyprus-based VPN maintains no record of the activity of the users on the internet. However, it says that if authorities come knocking at the door, then the VPN will hand over the credentials, plus will investigate the case on its own.

Can My Family Connect with a Single Subscription?

EarthVPN offers 3 simultaneous connections which aren’t enough but is a satisfactory number. When someone purchases a VPN subscription, he thinks to secure his entire family with it. The number of simultaneous connections this VPN offers is disappointing; however, if you wish to seek a low-cost VPN which offers 3 connections simultaneously, then you should opt-out for this one.

Is EarthVPN Torrent Friendly?

EarthVPN has offshore VPN servers that are capable of sending and receiving P2P data packets. The allowed P2P data traffic does not depict any DMCA notice or any other equivalent notices. However, some servers that are covered within DMCA do not allow torrenting.

EarthVPN Compatibility with Cross-Platform

Device compatibility is vital and a mandatory aspect when reviewing a VPN service. Some people prefer buying a VPN which works best across all devices. In fact, while reviewing a VPN, we give special attention to this aspect.

EarthVPN is compatible with a ton of devices which includes;

  • Computers
  • Laptops
  • Smartphone
  • Tablets
  • DD-WRT Routers

In terms of cross platforms, it is compatible with;

  • Windows
  • Mac OS
  • Linux
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Routers

How Sound is Earth VPN Customer Support?

The customer support is a must for a VPN service due to the complexity of the product. A VPN service provider should hire an experienced staff that is technically sound and is capable of resolving any query associated with a VPN.

EarthVPN claims that it offers 24/7 and 365 customer support/ We were happy to read it, but all our excitement went in vain when we saw that no live chat is offered. However, your query can be addressed via ticket, which might take some hours to respond.

It is a big setoff especially when the company claims to provide round the clock customer service and then the customer had to wait for hours to get a response, that too with a ticket.

Our query was responded after 3 hours, you can try your luck, we felt unlucky lets hope you don’t.

Concluding the Review

Without a doubt, EarthVPN offers a feature-rich service at a nominal price. However, the lack of server count and performance quality made it an ordinary choice amongst other VPN giants like ExpressVPN and NordVPN.

This VPN doesn’t have a live chat feature which not only annoys the user but also makes the VPN itself feel lousy. EarthVPN also does not offer a free trial but only gives a mere 7-day money-back guarantee.

Apparently, we will leave the decision to you; our suggestion is to part ways with this VPN who knows when they finish up their product.
