The best feeling in the world is when you get home from a long day and unwind with your favorite TV show on Netflix. But what’s a good movie without a plot twist? Instead of binging on your movie, you are greeted with a banner that says it’s “not available in your region”. As disappointing as it seems, this happens to a lot of us (myself included). But you don’t have to deal with this problem any longer. In this article, I’ll be teaching you a quick and easy way of getting American Netflix from USA and anywhere in the world!
After reviewing most services, we recon ExpressVPN is the best VPN for privacy, streaming and torrenting. For a limited time, get a huge discount and 30-day money-back guarantee.
Netflix’s always trending all over social media because of their Netflix original series like Stranger Things, Black Mirror, etc. And among the younger generation of millennials, it owes its popularity to the infamous ‘Netflix and chill’ date night.
Netflix has been around for 21 years now. It’s based in California and started as a humble DVD-by-mail service. They spearheaded the streaming industry and gained millions of loyal supporters all around the globe. Their latest statistics show that they currently have over 125 million subscribers coming from 200 different countries! And although half of their subscribers are United States citizens, they have a huge plan underway to increase ‘foreign’ subscriptions.
As for their prices, it’s placed at a fairly reasonable level and is the same regardless of wherever you reside. However, the content that you get differs from country to country.
If you’ve ever taken your laptop with you on vacation in the hopes of catching up on your all-time favorite TV series, you know how this goes. Just when you’ve finally settled down and started searching for the title, the closest thing you get is a “Titles related to:”. This means to say that the movie title you want to watch is not available in the place you are currently staying in. So now, you’d have to look for ways to unblock US Netflix.
But just so you know, you aren’t alone. No other country except the United States can avail of the full movie catalog. Canada only has access to about 55%, while the United Kingdom only has 35%. The least number of movies and TV shows you can get would be if you visit Morocco which only gets 3%. You can’t get the same content from American Netflix abroad.
Now, let’s not start making assumptions and blame Netflix.
Of course, they too would love to provide access to all their subscribers around the world. I mean, why would they not want to make more money right? But, they are held back because they have to keep their side of the agreement they had with the movie distributors regarding copyright. So, Netflix has to constantly impose a system that blocks users that aren’t within US boundaries. This is done through something called geo-restriction. Is there a way to get around geo-restriction and unblock US Netflix?

You probably already know that every device when connected to the internet is assigned its unique IP address. You could consider this as your location coordinates. An IP address can pinpoint where you are and even what you’re doing. So geo-restrictions work by first taking a look at your IP address. Then, it compares your location to see whether it is within bounds of the United States. And, if you aren’t, then the Netflix server will automatically block you from accessing the movie.
So let’s say for example you’re in Canada and you try to connect to a movie that’s only available in the US. You’ll be served with the infamous “whoops, something went wrong” banner. This happens because Canada, along with every other country that isn’t the United States, is registered on the American Netflix blacklist. It is their blacklisting process that denies you access to the content you’re asking for.
Even though this may be frustrating to us subscribers, it is what keeps our beloved Netflix up and running. Because through this, they can keep their end of the legal contract that they had with the original content providers.
But never fear, we’ll be talking about how to get around geo-restrictions and unblock US Netflix in a while.
Here is what I promised earlier on. The safest, easiest, and fastest solution on how to watch American Netflix abroad.
By now, I’m sure, I’ve made it pretty obvious that the only way to unblock US Netflix and access the entire catalog is through a US IP address.
There is a simple tool that can manipulate your IP address at will. With an American Netflix VPN, you can easily change your IP address. To briefly introduce it, a VPN is very secure, gives its users anonymous surfing, and yes, bypass geo-restrictions by IP address manipulation. It is through this that you can unblock US Netflix.
How does a VPN Access American Netflix abroad? I’ll make it as easy to understand as possible. When you get a VPN, you have a bunch of different options to choose from. There are different server locations all over the world. Simply pick one out and that becomes your new IP address! Even though you’re not there physically, virtually, it looks like you are situated over there. So, whenever you try accessing any website or content that you can’t usually get, a VPN will help you bypass the server. This is how it works around geo-restriction and censorship.
Now let’s talk about anonymity. I mentioned earlier that a VPN is not just able to simply unblock US Netflix, it can also make you anonymous online. Once you connect to your VPN server, your data traffic is automatically encrypted with military-grade coding. Then, your data passes through a very secure tunnel going to the VPN server. This entire process protects and hides all your data, therefore, making you virtually invisible! You are now safe and sound from external threats.
This is a list of my American Netflix VPNs. Rest assured, they are all top of the line since I have tested them out. For years, I’ve been trying out all the different providers that you can find on the internet. From the small, unpopular ones, to all the big providers, you name it.
I’m a very picky person when it comes to VPNs since I use it every day. So, everything I recommend here is only the best of the best in my standards. If you select one of the providers below, then you are guaranteed success in accessing American Netflix abroad.
If you’d like, you can also take a closer look at each of the individual services. I would recommend doing this so that you will know exactly what you’re about to sign up for. After all, each different provider has a different specialty and price point. So, it would be best for you to check it out yourself and see which best fits you so you can easily access American Netflix abroad.
Now that you have all the options laid out in front of you, you’re probably wondering how to pick one out. If you’re a beginner, then you probably still don’t know the first thing about VPNs. Well, don’t worry because I’m one step ahead of you. I’ve created this guide so that you can look into every aspect that makes good VPN services that can get you American Netflix abroad. Then once you’re done going through it, you can cross-reference to see if your preferred provider offers the same features.
This is one of the most important factors you should take note of when choosing a VPN.
One of the rules we carry on in our life is “the more, the better“. And it goes the same for VPNs as well. The more servers there are, the better. This is because of the more servers available, the lesser the chances of it getting overloaded by users. So, VPNs with a lot of servers are guaranteed to get you American Netflix abroad.
Take this for example: let’s say an elevator’s maximum capacity is 21 people. Once a 22nd person steps on, the elevator can’t move up and therefore, can’t function. This is because it is overloaded with people that it simply can’t handle the weight anymore. The same goes for VPN servers. Once it exceeds it’s limits, the server overloads, and eventually crashes. But if your provider has a lot of servers, then the users will be more spread out. Hence, everyone will get to experience quality service and internet connection.
Server locations go hand in hand with server numbers. Just as people need a lot of servers to prevent overloading, they also need a variety of server locations to access any content they want. If we go back to what we learned earlier about IP addresses, server locations are very important in accessing different content. Sometimes there’s content only available in schools, or buildings, so the more options you have, the better.
This is one of the most important things to look for in a VPN. When you are trying to unblock American Netflix abroad, you’re technically violating Netflix law. So, it is important to keep yourself safe when doing this. And you can do so with the following security features:
This is the first thing you should look into the security features of the VPN you choose.
A no-log policy is there to ensure that your provider doesn’t log or record any of your online activity or history. This way, no matter what threatens the company, whether it be government authorities or high-level hackers, they won’t have any data to hand over.
So, you can safely unblock American Netflix abroad and enjoy any online activity without having to worry about getting in trouble. Because the only person that will ever know what you’re doing is you, thanks to the no-log policy.
This policy is highly dependent on where the provider is based. Some countries have strict laws that require all online operations to hand over data and records to the government for surveillance. So, before subscribing to a VPN, make sure to check if they have this policy and research on where their service is based.
This is one of the most common security features that you can find in almost any VPN – which is a good thing.
A kill-switch cuts off or ‘kills’ your connection and any open windows whenever it senses your VPN connection is being tampered with. On the rare occasion that a third-party manages to get into your connection, there is a chance that your identity, personal information, and data history can be stolen. So, the kill-switch is a last resort that just closes down everything so that the hacker will be shut out completely. This way, they have no way of getting to your data at all even if you simply unblock American Netflix abroad.
This feature is also present in most providers nowadays. Anti-DNS leak protection is there to protect your connection from leaks.
Once you are connected to your chosen VPN server, your data passes through a secure tunnel which is also heavily encrypted. But there are some instances where little snippets of your data slip through the cracks of the tunnel. This is called a leak. So, the anti-DNS leak protection is there to sense these and take the necessary reaction even when using Netflix US.
Don’t you just hate those annoying pop-up ads that you get out of nowhere? We’ve all fallen victim to them at least once in our lives. When you think you’re clicking on the ‘next page’ button then a pop-up suddenly appears and you’re taken to a site that sells fungi remedies.
A VPN is the best solution to that extremely irritating problem. It automatically blocks ads and ensures you hassle-free browsing experience.
And it also doubles as a malware detector. Take note that I said DETECTOR and no anti-virus. It can’t rid your computer of any viruses that you may fall victim to, but it can help prevent it.
I recommend using a VPN side by side with anti-virus to 100% safeguard your device from any online threats. And it’s also working round the clock even when using American Netflix abroad.
Did you know that free WiFi networks are a haven for hackers? This is where they love to plant viruses that could steal your data. Some cases are as simple as stealing your IP address, and some are as threatening as credit card skimming, and even stealing your SSS.
But whenever you use a VPN with the free WiFi connection, you are hidden from all these threats and you can go about your day normally without a worry! You can now stream American Netflix abroad using free WiFi without getting your personal information stolen.
There are a TON more security features that some VPNs offer. And these are the most common ones that are present in almost all providers. You just have to read closely since they have their trademarked names for the features.
Now I know that this has come across your mind at least once. If you’ve been doing your research, you’ll see that there are a ton of other providers available on the market that offer their services for absolutely no charge. And while this sounds very tempting, I strongly discourage you from availing it.
Just a disclaimer. I have nothing against free services. I would love not to have to pay for a provider if I could. But for me, the sacrifices that come with free VPNs are just not worth it.
For one, you don’t get the guaranteed security of your private information. Whereas the main priority of a VPN should be to keep you safe and anonymous, free providers sell your information to advertising companies looking to promote their products and services. And I don’t know about you, but I’m not comfortable knowing that my data is being used like this.
Another reason is that free providers only come with a limited data cap. I even know of some that offer as little as 500 MB to their users. This is 2 YouTube videos per month at the most. Say goodbye to Netflix and chill.
And the final con that takes the cake is this: free services can’t unblock American Netflix abroad. Earlier on, I kept repeating that not all VPNs are capable of unblocking Netflix. This also includes most free VPNs. The free providers simply don’t have as many resources at their disposal as compared to the premium services. If you try out a free provider, you’ll probably get blocked with the Netflix proxy error. So, if you’re looking for a free VPN to get American Netflix abroad, you probably won’t have any luck.
If you’re still not convinced, let’s go through a more detailed explanation of why you need to always use a VPN.
I don’t think I need to elaborate on this much since this is the subject of the entire article. But you should probably know that a VPN is not restricted to accessing American Netflix alone. It can also unblock HBO, BBC, Disney+, and many others. But just remember, not all providers are capable of this since it is getting harder and harder to fight against the bans that the big movie-streaming services are putting up.
This is one of the most important aspects you need to look into when picking out a VPN for American Netflix abroad.
Now that our lives revolve around the internet, anonymity is a luxury that everyone seeks. Our everyday activities consist of at least one thing that requires technology or the internet. And because of this, our personal lives and identity are embedded in the world-wide-web. But it is this exactly that makes us vulnerable to all the different threats online.
It is so easy for third-parties to look up someone’s IP address and activities nowadays. If you’re one that loves to shop online and do all your important transactions through the internet, then you’re at high risk. Even simple things like chatting with your friend, browsing through your emails, and watching movies on American Netflix could be monitored by other people at any given time. Now I’m not saying any of this to scare you, this is just the cold, harsh reality.
But a great way to fight this threat is by getting a VPN. It’s not just good for getting American Netflix abroad. That’s right, a good provider is very much able to hide all your activities and personal information from government agencies, hackers, and even crazy exes. However, you need to be very careful in choosing since not all services are capable – more on this later.
This is the reason why VPNs are so well-known. If you ever try asking a random person about VPNs, the first thing that they will probably come to say is that “it can get you American Netflix abroad”. And that is absolutely correct. A good provider can unblock US Netflix without a problem because it can bypass geo-restrictions.
But take note, not all providers can access the big streaming platforms and websites. Companies like Netflix, HBO, and many more are gearing up to fight against proxies and American Netflix VPNs. If you try out a random service, chances are, you won’t be able to access the content you’re looking for. It takes a lot of money, time, and effort into getting through the big servers. So, you should stick with my recommended list because those are the sure-fire providers that can get you to what you want.
There are so many people that would get a lot of use out of a VPN. This includes gamers.
Haven’t you ever felt the frustration of not being able to get early access to a game while people in Japan can get it right away? Well, just how a VPN works to unblock US Netflix, it can also unblock certain games by changing your IP address. You can get the latest updates right away without having to fly thousands of miles all with the simple push of a button.
Think outside the box! You can even use this feature to change Netflix region and buy products that are only released in certain regions. There are just so many possibilities!
Like I said earlier, some countries place rather heavy bans on certain sites. Countries like China, North Korea, and others don’t allow people to access the big social media sites. These include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and even Google. Imagine living a life without Google. But with a good VPN, you can access these anytime you want to! Feel free to travel around while still keeping in touch with your social media accounts.
Because these nations have strict bans on certain sites and apps, you can use a VPN to get around this in a breeze. This is what it entails whenever you wonder how to change Netflix country.
It also works the same way as getting American Netflix abroad. Even when you’re in another country, a VPN can change your IP address and allow you to access your social media account. So make sure to add “get a VPN” on your checklist for things to pack before traveling.
Since our identity is practically found everywhere on the internet, we need to protect it. A VPN can hide all your online activity and information with its military-grade encryption. And to top it all off, a good VPN won’t keep logs of your history which ensures your data to be kept private at all times.
This comes in really useful since your main purpose is to get American Netflix abroad. As you know, Netflix works hard in keeping people from other regions from accessing specific content. If they ever found out someone got through, it could spell trouble.
You can also use this whenever you’re downloading torrent files. If you prefer downloading your movies so you can take it on the go, then you’ll definitely need a VPN. Needless to say, downloading copyrighted content for free is illegal. And there are a lot of copyright trolls constantly scouring the internet for people that go against this law by torrenting. This is why a lot of our beloved torrent sites have been taken down. Kickass.to, we will always remember you. But with your identity, location, and online activity hidden by a VPN, you are free to torrent as many files as you want.
This is one benefit that most people have no clue about. This is because it has something to do with your ISP.
Your ISP or Internet Service Provider is what gives you your internet connection. But did you know that your ISP actually sometimes throttles or holds back your bandwidth? That’s right, it deliberately interferes with your speed. Haven’t you ever noticed how your internet is faster at night than it is during the day? Or how the internet connection suddenly gets so slow right when you’re downloading a torrent file? This is because your ISP intentionally slows down your internet to discourage you from doing certain activities.
But a VPN is also able to hide you from your ISP just like how it can hide you from the Netflix server to access American Netflix abroad. Because your ISP can’t even see if you’re online or not, it won’t know when and how to throttle your connection. So now, you won’t have to experience slow speeds because you’ll finally be able to unlock the full potential of your bandwidth!
Let’s break down what you need to know about how Netflix subscriptions work.
If you’re simply thinking you can get an American Netflix subscription to get around geo-restrictions, and have American Netflix abroad, think again. Their subscriptions and content access aren’t based on which country you sign up in. No matter where or how you subscribe to the service, you are automatically given a global account. This is pretty great because it ensures that no matter where you are in the world, you can connect and access it easily.
But then, this is where the geo-restrictions and limited catalog come into play. Depending on which country you’re in, you can only access the movies that are present in their library selection. No more, no less. So if you’re in the UK, you will only have access to one-third out of the entire movie catalog.
On the bright side, your global Netflix account can prove to be useful for how to get US Netflix later on, with a VPN.
To do this, each of your friends needs a Netflix account and the Netflix Party app.
However, you will see that the choice of movies and series is very limited. Because you can only stream the content that’s available in all the countries you are in. But with a VPN like ExpressVPN, you can all spoof your location in the US and access the full catalog
Now you know everything there is about VPNs and how you can get American Netflix abroad. Remember that not all providers are guaranteed how to access Netflix US catalog so it is best for you to start with my recommended list above.
Even if your main purpose is to unblock US Netflix and binge-watch movies, you should always consider your online safety. Pair this with all the benefits you get from it and you have the recipe for a perfect online experience.
And for me, the best VPN provider would definitely have to be ExpressVPN. It is very famous for its user-friendly interface which makes it very easy for beginners and experts alike to be able to navigate around the app. And one of the winning benefits of this provider is that it offers a simultaneous connection of up to 7 devices. This means that you can use a single subscription for all your devices at the same time! You can even share it with your friends and family so they too can get the protection they need from online threats as well as get American Netflix abroad.

I've actually also noticed that even though Netflix is finally available in my country, it doesn't have the same movies as subscribers in the US. The whole reason I got a Netflix account was because I wanted to watch this one movie in particular since it doesn't show in the movie theatres anymore. But once I finally searched for it, only the title appeared next to the "search for titles related to" or something like that. Point is, I asked my family members who are currently living in the us and they said that they actually watched that movie a week before me. I was so upset knowing that there are some movies that only people in the us can watch. So now, I'm really planning to invest in yet another subscription for a vpn just so i can watch US Netflix. But wouldn't it be too much money being used just so I can finally watch that one particular movie? I mean I already have a Netflix subscription and on top of that I'd have to pay for my VPN subscription too? I'm just wondering if this would all be worth it
Hey thanks for sharing your thoughts on that. Actually, I have an experience similar to yours. My mom was in another country and we were planning to watch a movie together on Netflix for the weekend. So when she opened and loaded her movie, all I got on my screen was that pesky “search for titles related to”. And like you, I was pretty bummed out so I decided to try out VPN for a month just to see if it’s worth it. And let me tell you, it sure was. You would not believe how much we were missing out on all this time compared to the US Netflix movie selections. I could’ve sworn I didn’t leave my house for a good 2 days just browsing and watching all the movies that were now available to me. Now I am a monthly VPN subscriber in addition to being a Netflix subscriber. My suggestion for you is that you do what I did and just try it out for a month to see if you like it and if you think it would be beneficial for you. But getting a VPN isn’t just to access American Netflix. It can do so much more for you like keeping your information and identity safe from unwanted spies and it can even prevent annoying advertisement pop ups. So I am certain that getting an additional subscription to a VPN will do you more good than harm.
