Easy to Use
You’ll be surprised to know that you can get your CyberGhost VPN up and running in just a few minutes.
All you need to do is click on the download option below which will take you to the main website. Then there are just three simple steps to follow as below:
- Choose the pricing plan that best suits you
- Create your secure account
- Choose your preferred payment option
The app will now download automatically and you will receive a welcome email and the invoice for your payment. Once the app has finished downloading, you can follow the instructions for installing it. To get started with your account just enter the information that was provided in your welcome email. One of the great things about Ghost VPN is that it can be used on up to 7 devices simultaneously.
If you need any guidance during the setup process, there is a great source of information and guides to follow on CyberGhosts website. Alternatively, they also have a great support team that can be contacted 24/7 hours per day.
Let’s continue this CyberGhost review by looking at the pricing.
There are several different plans on offer which range from a monthly subscription to longer-term options for 6 months and 1 year.
No matter what plan you choose, each one benefits from a full 45-day money-back guarantee. The IOS and Android app also have a 7-day free trial period.
If you go ahead and purchase the annual plan, you can currently benefit from their “flash sale” and get an amazing 77% of the total price. This is a temporary deal so make sure that you take advantage quick.
There are also various payment methods such as PayPal, credit cards, and even Bitcoin.
Reliability and Support
The service the CyberGhost offers is very reliable and has almost no downtime whatsoever. If you do need to contact the support team you will find that there are many options to do so.
The fastest option is to use the Live Chat, however, I have experienced some support people who were unable to help me with my issue. If your query is not urgent then I recommend you to use the ticket system on their website as this will ensure that your questions are passed to the right people. The only downside to this is that the ticket system may take a day or two to resolve your issues.
In all honesty, the questions I put to them were very technical – asking about Netflix servers, router setups and DNS questions and they surprised me by answering my queries thoroughly in detail. It is much better to get this kind of response than a lightning quick one from Live Chat that may not help the issue in hand.
As mentioned previously, if you are quite a technical person and can usually fix any issues yourself, there is a very helpful troubleshooter section with well-written guides that you can follow. In addition, there is also an FAQ section that is helpful for getting basic information and should be the first place for beginners to check out.
My Detailed Expert CyberGhost Review
Ghost VPN (as I like to call it) takes the essentials of a VPN and blends them with an innovative approach. However, is this combination enough to ensure that you get limitless access to your favorite streaming services and can guarantee you optimal privacy in the process?
Ghost VPN is a unique piece of software the offers a stellar performance. One of the frequent questions that beginners ask is “is CyberGhost safe”? The answer is that it is as safe as it can be. I will go into more details on this later on in my CyberGhost review.
The VPN headquarters are based in Romania where there is a rapidly growing tech scene. However, this location was mainly chosen as Romania is one of the most privacy-friendly locations in Europe and takes privacy matters very seriously.
CyberGhost doesn’t disappoint when it comes to security. There are a wide array of protocols such as L2TP/IPsec, OpenVPN and PPTP and also what is known as AES-256 encryption. In addition, there are extra features such as the Kill Switch and DNS leak protection. So is CyberGhost safe? With these options, you won’t get safer!
It is a very popular choice for users who bring a VPN to China who want to get around the country’s strict laws on internet usage. The government has currently blocked many popular websites such as Facebook, Google and have created their own versions of such sites.
There are in fact a whopping 2,220+ servers across a total of 59 countries. I believe that this is the most that any VPN service offers. This number is also increasing at a faster rate than any of the competition. As is usual, some servers are going to be faster than others depending on the country they are in, but in general, the speeds are super-fast across all.
This was recently revamped and I must say that visually it is much better on the eye than most others. But not only were the visuals improved, the overall functionality is now much better too. While it used to be quite a mediocre interface, it is now a game changer with premade profiles that are extremely useful.
Most people prefer a simple VPN and CyberGhost is definitely that. In just a matter of seconds, you can chose your preferred profile and whether you want extra security on public WiFi, or torrenting or even unblocking. If you want to unblock, then there is even a list of streaming services that you can choose from which have preconfigured settings. What this means is that you can unblock your favorite sites such as BBC iPlayer, American Netflix, Hulu, Sky and many more.
If you prefer though you still have the option of manually choosing your server and protocols.
So are there any negatives that need to be talked about?
Well as with any service or software, there is usually a few negatives. I could only find two for ghost VPN. One we discussed earlier was the support ticket and the time it takes to have your issue resolved. Whilst it can take a few days, I do believe that this is in line with most other VPN clients and nothing out of the ordinary.
The only other negative for some might be the monthly payment plan which some may find rather expensive. This is mitigated though by the 30-day full money-back guarantee offer.
My advice would be to take the yearly plan and take advantage of the 77% discount. This is certainly the cheapest option.
Overall, CyberGhost is a solid VPN client and one that has reinvented itself over the last year and introduced much more value for their users. Because of this, they have become hugely successful and it shows from their 50,000+ daily users.
Let’s go even more in depth now and look at some of the Platforms as well as torrents and whether it is a good VPN for people living in the USA.
Windows and Mac
As mentioned earlier, CyberGhost allows a user to choose a profile based on their needs rather than just connecting to a random server. The VPN will then connect you to the best server based on these needs.
For Windows, there are profiles offered that focus on surfing anonymously as well as streaming content and encryption. This all falls in line with the leak protection offered and the numerous security protocols and the strict no-log policy.
Another huge benefit that I like is that there is no bandwidth limits and the fact that you can connect 7 devices simultaneously.
With its integrated MacOS app, CyberGhost is great for all those Mac users out there. The program is very simple to download and install and it doesn’t matter if you use Lion or High Sierra.
Android and IOS
Did you know that mobile internet search is much bigger than desktop search these days? So it makes sense to ensure that you have a VPN app for your smartphone, too. Well, you’ll be pleased to know that CyberGhost offers easy-to-use VPN apps for Android and IOS.
The biggest benefit for the mobile apps is that there is a 7-day free trial. This means that you can test it out completely free before deciding if you want to make the purchase and get the full features.
Just like the desktop and Mac versions, the Android and IOS apps come with all of the security features but have been specifically designed to stream your favorite programs securely, surf anonymously and most importantly, they have the auto-protect Wifi feature.
You can also customize your server which is pretty awesome considering there are thousands of servers in multiple countries.
Due to being able to connect to 7 devices at the same time, you can have the VPN running on your phone whilst also using the app on your computer or Mac. Hell, you could even have it set up on your tablet too!
Streaming or downloading torrents is one of the most popular uses of VPN clients. So if that is what you mostly do, you will be pleased to know that Ghost VPN offers a “torrent anonymously” profile option. This means that you can just choose this profile and it will connect you to the best VPN for torrenting and provide the best settings for you. It will also ensure that it will only connect to servers that are in locations where it is legal to download. Are VPNs legal? Yes. But downloading torrents may not be in some countries.
Security is also prioritized when it comes to torrenting; there are no logs kept and DNS leak and IP protection are offered.
Final Thoughts on CyberGhost
Credit must be given where it is due for CyberGhost and their VPN client. They make no compromise when it comes to privacy and encryption and they top things off with servers that offer incredible speed and excellent performance. Whilst they were never considered the best option for a VPN a few years ago, they have listened to feedback seriously and implemented the changes to ensure that they can now beat the competition in the VPN space.
With an easy-to-use interface and some really handy features, this is an excellent choice for both VPN experts and those just starting out. Whether you use Windows. A Mac or a smartphone, there are options for all and the great thing is, CyberGhost are aiming to continuously improve and upgrade their features and service.
Hopefully, you know have enough information to make an informed decision on whether this is the best VPN app for you. And you will make the right choice and give it a go!
