How to watch Apple TV Plus abroad?

In March 2019, the high-tech giant of Cupertino announced its streaming service: Apple TV Plus. And it’s a new competitor to Netflix and Amazon. While the service is only available in the USA, at first, the company plans to offer it in more than 100 countries. Experts believe it should work the same way as other streaming platforms. And here’s my guess on how to watch Apple streaming service with a VPN!

Streaming Apple TV Plus USA

If you’re as excited as we are at VPNveteran.com. And if you don’t live in the US. Then I’m sure you don’t want to wait for a few months to watch Apple streaming service. So here’s a trick for you. While I can’t guarantee it works yet, this is my best guess today. And I may not be that far from the truth.

A global account

As I said in the introduction, the streaming service will be exclusively available in the US, to start with. But chances are that you will be able to subscribe and watch Apple TV streaming with the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Most of the other platforms like Netflix offer a global account. And subscribers, from the US to Moscow, share the exact same account. The only difference lies in the IP addresses of their devices. While an American has an American IP address, a Russian has a Russian one. And that allows streaming platforms to determine which content to broadcast to which user.

It’s also the reason why, when you travel, you get access to different shows, languages, and subtitles.

And it’s the reason why you should, in theory, be able to stream Apple TV in the USA, even if you’re not staying in the US.

Bypassing the geo-restrictions

Your problem today, if you’re reading this article, is your IP address. I bet you’re outside of the US territory. And when you try to subscribe or to watch Apple TV Plus, it doesn’t work. Maybe you can’t even access the homepage.

Because the website can easily locate your computer, tablet or smartphone. And, of course, your IP is blacklisted.

While there are several ways to change your IP address, a VPN is the safest one. Because it’s the only one that encrypts your traffic, in addition to hiding your IP address. And it’s fast. So you’ll be able to watch your videos in high definition.

A VPN creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and a server of the network. The server then visits the websites on your behalf. And it sends back the content to your own device.

So, once connected, you don’t actually visit any website with your device. But you use the server instead to browse the internet. And if your server has an American IP address, you can watch Apple TV service.

Getting an American IP address

Choosing a VPN can be a long and boring task. And that’s one of the reasons why we created this site in the first place. But when you have found one, using it is simple as pie. If you don’t know which one to select, we recommend using ExpressVPN.

When you log in to the VPN, you can then select a server. And to get an American IP address, you need to connect to a server located in the USA.

That’s it. You now have a US IP. And if you visit the Apple streaming service website, you will be able to use it as an American user.

Getting access to your content when you’re abroad

While I haven’t mentioned it above, the Apple TV service, like its competitors, does not only create original content. But it also broadcasts content purchased from other producers. And it’s therefore bound by contracts and TV rights. Content producers (like HBO, Starz, Showtime, CBS, etc.) sell their creations for a defined territory. And this explains why the same content is not available in all the countries.

So if you travel outside of the US, you won’t be able to watch Apple TV plus. Even if you have paid for your subscription.

Fortunately, you can use a VPN for Apple TV Plus. And when you connect to a server in the US, you get access to your content!

What are the best VPNs for Apple TV Plus?

As with the rest of this article, it’s pure speculation until we can get our hands on the Apple TV streaming subscription. However, we’re VPN experts. And we know what are the best VPNs on the market. Also, we know what to look for in a VPN when you need to access a specific streaming platform.

First of all, you’ll need a VPN that can unblock Apple TV Plus. And I’d bet that not so many of them will be able to do so. Because the company will have taken this into consideration. And I think most VPN servers will quickly get banned. So you need to use a reliable and premium service. A service from a provider that invests in new servers and IPs on a regular basis. And that provides dedicated servers.

Second, you’ll need a Tier 1 VPN which provides high speeds. This is to get the best viewing experience. You definitely don’t want to have the videos buffering all the time. Nor do you want low-quality videos. Therefore, you need a fast VPN.

Finally, your VPN shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Because you’re already paying for the Apple streaming service. And the good news is that even the top VPNs remain affordable. You should select a yearly subscription to get extra discounts. And it should cost you a few bucks a month – or the price of a beer!
